Few paintings reflect so clearly Miró’s desire to "achieve the maximum intensity with the minimum means" as The lark’s wing ringed with the blue of gold meets the heart of the poppy asleep in the field adorned with diamonds.

Landscape forms the conceptual setting of a large part of Miró’s work. Here, although the title suggests the genre once again, the format is not the standard horizontal one for a landscape painting. Nor is the picture a literal representation of what the title suggests. Instead it is an independent entity, with its own internal laws.
